Washington, D.C. – March 13, 2014 – Today, The Glover Park Group (GPG) announced that Oliver Phillips joined the firm as a Managing Director, working across the company’s Public Affairs, Media Relations and Corporate Communication Practices.

Oliver joins GPG from Brunswick Group, where he founded the Corporate Responsibility and Sustainability Practice serving clients including ABInBev, Cisco, Chevron, the Ford Motor Company, Hilton Worldwide, Gap Inc., Pearson, PepsiCo and the World Wildlife Fund. Prior to joining Brunswick, Oliver ran global media strategy for UNICEF from 2003 to 2006, overseeing communications for the agency’s priority campaigns. Accompanying Executive Director Carol Bellamy, he led the first fact finding mission by a UN Agency head to the Darfur region of Sudan and oversaw global campaigns focused on access to clean water, reducing child mortality and increasing the availability of affordable pediatric AIDS drugs. From 2001 to 2003, he was Senior Advisor and Communications Director for California Governor Gray Davis, where, in the midst of the state’s energy crisis, he led communications for the nation’s first carbon emissions act.

“We are excited to bring Oliver on board. His expertise in crisis communications, issues management and stakeholder engagement and significant experience in developing public-private partnerships is a huge asset to our team,” said Jason Miner, head of the Strategic Communications practice at GPG.

Before entering the political arena, Oliver had a distinguished career in broadcast journalism, working for ITN, ABC News, NBC News and CNN, and has been based in Moscow, Hong Kong, London, New York and Washington, D.C. His coverage of the collapse of the Soviet Union won two New York Festival of Television Awards and a Cannes Prix de Presse; his reporting from the Chechen war earned a special mention by the British Academy of Film and Television (BAFTA); and his live coverage of the US bombing of Baghdad was nominated for a Livingston Award.

“Oliver has worked at the nexus of government, corporate and non-profit worlds and has experience navigating the evolving relationship between them,” said Chip Smith, GPG’s Chief Executive Officer. “His deep knowledge of the public and private sectors will help our clients achieve their strategic goals.”

Oliver is a graduate of Cambridge University and fluent in French and Russian. He is co-founder and a board member of Mwikali’s Gift, a New York-based non-profit organization focused on clean water, malaria and education projects in Africa.
