Alex Mistri

Managing Director


Alex Mistri is a Managing Director at The Glover Park Group in the firm’s Government Affairs Division, where he specializes in government relations, complex communications and public affairs for an array of corporate and non-profit engagements. Alex came to GPG after positions in the legislative, political, policy and diplomatic arenas spanning almost two decades.

For 15 months prior to joining GPG, Alex accepted an assignment to the United States Embassy in Baghdad, Iraq. There he was responsible for long term strategic planning and contributed to the compilation of the Joint Campaign Plan, the blueprint for U.S. military and civilian collaboration within Iraq. He also collaborated extensively with the Chairman of Iraq’s National Investment Commission to boost foreign direct investment into Iraq and served as a principal in the interagency effort to host the first U.S.-Iraq Business and Investment Conference in Washington, D.C. in October 2009.

Alex possesses experience on both ends of Pennsylvania Avenue. From 2005 to 2008, Alex worked in the White House serving as Special Assistant to President George W. Bush. In this capacity, Alex was responsible for developing, coordinating and executing White House strategy on legislative issues and served as one of the President’s primary liaisons to the United States Congress. Alex managed the national security portfolio acting as liaison between the White House and the Committees on Armed Services, Defense Appropriations, Intelligence and Homeland Security.

Prior to his service at the White House, Alex spent a decade on Capitol Hill in legislative roles in both the United States Senate and House of Representatives. He served as Chief of Staff to Congressman Bill Shuster for four years before leaving for the White House.

During and after their assignment in Baghdad, Alex and his wife, Amy, travelled for four months to 11 countries throughout the Middle East, Africa and Asia. They now live on Capitol Hill with their son, Dylan.
