Leading strategic communications and government affairs firm The Glover Park Group (GPG) today announced that Paul Poteet has joined its Government Relations practice as a Managing Director. Poteet will provide strategic political and legislative counsel on tax, trade and finance policy within the Republican leadership.
Poteet joins GPG with over 15 years of experience, most recently serving as Senior Policy Advisor and Counsel on Tax and Trade for Senator John Thune (R-SD), a member of the Senate Committee on Finance. Responsible for guiding the Senator’s tax and trade priorities through the legislative process, Poteet also advised on issues relating to the Senator’s position as Chairman of the Senate Republican Conference and Chairman of the Senate Committee on Commerce, Science and Transportation.
“We’re fortunate that Paul is joining the firm at a moment when we are heading into a critical debate on the issues in his wheelhouse—namely, taxes, international trade and health care,” said Joel Johnson, Managing Director and head of GPG’s Government Relations practice.
Prior to joining Senator Thune’s leadership team, Poteet served as Managing Director, Federal Government Relations for the Biotechnology Industry Association (BIO). As a senior government relations specialist for the U.S. biotechnology industry, Poteet worked closely with industry leaders to develop and advocate for federal policies to improve the business climate for U.S. biotechnology.
Poteet began his career in the office of Congressman Wally Herger (R-CA), where he became a Senior Policy Advisor focused on taxation, international trade, Social Security and Medicare. He earned a Juris Doctor degree from George Washington University Law School and a Masters degree in Government from Johns Hopkins University.
